In 2009 a small public sector body asked me to take their existing Capital Projects Guidance notes and Framework and turn them into a training programme. This involved; meeting with the authors, writing a case study and designing the training programme. This was rolled out to Project Managers only.
Two years later, in 2011, the framework had moved on and an Excel based ‘toolbox’ had been developed to enable effective monitoring of projects. The organisation had used the toolbox to great success on a high profile public project. The benefits of using this approach were so great that they decided to introduce it as a standard approach for all programmes and projects. I was successful in tendering to design and deliver the training to all employees. This involved learning how to use the toolbox, developing guidance notes and then designing training for all followed by role specific workshops for Programme Directors, Programme and Project Managers, Project Officers and the Programme and Project Office.
The feedback had been excellent and the toolbox and guidance notes continue to be reviewed and improved.
